What Affects the Cost of Stone Cladding on the Sunshine Coast?
One of the first questions we get asked is “how much does stone cladding cost?” The honest answer is that every job is different. Two walls of the same size can be priced very differently depending on the stone, the wall it is going on and how easy it is to get to. Here are the main things that affect the cost of stone cladding on the Sunshine Coast, so you know what to expect when you ask for a quote.

1. The type of stone you choose
Natural stone varies a lot in price. Sandstone, quartzite, granite, slate and limestone all have different supply costs, and within each type there are thinner, lighter veneers and thicker, heavier stones. Loose natural stone that is cut and fitted on site usually takes longer to install than ready-made stacked stone panels, which also affects labour. We are happy to show you options at different price points that still give a high-end finish.
2. The size and shape of the area
Stone cladding is usually quoted by the square metre, but shape matters as much as size. A large, flat feature wall is quicker to clad per square metre than a pier, a fireplace or a wall with lots of windows, doors and cut-outs to work around.
3. Corners and returns
Corners are what make stone look solid rather than stuck on. External corners need matching corner pieces or carefully cut and mitred returns, and they take more time than flat areas. Piers, pillars, letterboxes and portico columns are almost all corners, which is why they cost more per square metre than a flat wall. See our stone cladding pillars page for examples.
4. Wall preparation
Stone cladding needs a sound, suitable substrate. Clean block, brick or concrete is ideal. Painted, rendered or lightweight walls may need extra preparation, such as removing loose paint, adding a backing board or a waterproofing membrane. We check the wall at the measure and quote so there are no surprises later.

5. Height and access
Ground-level feature walls are the simplest. Two-storey facades, steep blocks, tight side access and fireplaces that run to a high ceiling may need scaffolding or extra hands, which adds to the cost.
6. Sealing and finishing details
Sealing protects the stone from staining and salt, and is worth it on the coast, especially around pools and outdoor kitchens. Capping, sills, mantels and lighting can also be part of the job and should be included in your quote.
